                                                                                               ATTENDANCE POLICY

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires all students to be in attendance 90% of the time a class is offered, regardless of an absence being excused/unexcused.  Students who fail to meet the 90% requirement, will lose credit for the course as follows:

  • First Semester- Any student who has 5 or more excused and/or unexcused absences in any course will lose credit for that course.

  • Second Semester- Any student who has 6 or more excused and/or unexcused absences in any course will lose credit for that course.

To recover credit, students must complete attendance recovery outside of the school day (before/after school and/or select Saturday School sessions offered).  Students must complete academic work during attendance restoration sessions to receive credit. Students who arrive late/leave early and/or fail to follow instructions will not receive credit.

Alternatively, an appeal can be submitted for absences that are the result of documented, extenuating circumstances. (See below.)

              How to Track Attendance Recovery

Students must complete attendance recovery outside of the regular school day for each absence in a course that exceeds the allowable number of absences per semester (see above).

Students are responsible for using the AHHS Attendance Recovery App to view the number of attendance recovery hours they need to complete and to track the number of attendance recovery hours they have completed and/or have been applied to their courses throughout the 6th six-weeks grading period.

NOTE: The app will only work properly if students follow the instructions on the app log in screen, which explains that students' FWISD STUDENT EMAIL ACCOUNT is required.  A pin number will be sent to allow access to students' private attendance information. Students can check their email at https://outlook.office.com/mail

(Unfortunately, the app WILL allow a log-in using ANY email address.  HOWEVER, it will only show the available dates/times for attendance recovery to log-ins using accounts that are not the students' school email address. So, it will appear that there are no courses that need to be recovered, which may not be an accurate representation.)

Parents can access the AHHS Attendance Recovery App.  HOWEVER, they must enter their student's FWISD student email address and then, ask their student to share the pin number that is subsequently emailed to that account to complete the log-in.  Once logged in, parents will continue to have access to the students' information on the device they used to log in.

              Attendance Appeal Procedures

If excessive absences are the result of documented, extenuating circumstances, parents/guardians may choose to submit an appeal to the Attendance Appeal Committee. (Deadline to be Announced)

COVID-related absences that have already been excused (EX3/EX4) DO NOT count against students, are NOT included in the calculation of hours needed for credit recovery, and do NOT need to be appealed.

Appeals should address absences that are not COVID-related and appropriate documentation should be attached.  Please contact your student's assigned counselor if you need assistance determining which date(s) your appeal should address.

Download/Print the appeal form below or pick up a printed copy from the Attendance Office.
